Graduation from any university including open universities recognized by the UGC. Indian students holding degree from a foreign university should ensure that their degree is duly accredited or recognized by UGC.
See UPSC latest notification in this regard. UPSC generally gives options to:
- If one opts to write the Main Exam in English, he/she may choose as the medium for interview either English or Hindi or any other Indian language opted by him/her for the compulsory Indian language paper in the written Main Exam. But, he/she is exempted from writing compulsory Indian language paper; he/she will have to choose either English or Hindi as the medium for interview.
- If a person opts for Indian language as the medium for the written part of the Civil Services Main Exam, he/she can choose either the same Indian language or English or Hindi as the medium for the interview.
(i). Number of attempts for General category candidates is 6.
(ii). Number of attempts for OBC is 9.
(iii). There is no restriction on number of attempts for SC/ST category.
In case of physically handicapped belonging to General category are eligible for 9 attempts.
